New Delhi, Mar 28 (UNI) As many as 1,677 shopkeepers filed affidavits with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi till this evening saying they will move out from residential areas, the MCD said.

The response was in compliance with a Supreme Court order which had set the deadline for today for such shops to be closed down.

With the government not yet having notified changes in the law so as to provide relief to the shopkeepers, traders associations have announced an ''indefinite agitation'' on the issue from tomorrow.

Vegetable, fruit, juice and flower shops, bakery products, tailoring, grocery, chemists, barbers, saloons, beauty parlors, small halwai shops and tea stalls, photocopier and spiral binding, laundry, dry cleaning, atta chakki, stationery items, paan, bidi and cigarette shops have been exempted from the sealing operations, an MCD spokesman said.
