Maoist, policeman killed in encounter
Motihari(Bihar), Mar 28 (UNI) An Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) and an activist of the proscribed CPI(Maoist) were killed in an encounter near Nanaoura village in East Champaran district late last night.
IG (Operations) Krishna Chaudhary said today a police party led by deputy police superintendent Rajesh Kumar was ambushed by the extremists while they were returning after supervising a case in the area.
''In the exhange of fire that followed between police and extremists, ASI Pramod Kumar Singh sustained fatal bullet injuries and died on the spot while a Maoist fell to the police bullet,'' Mr Chaudhary added.
Two extremists were arrested in this connection.
More than 150 live cartridges, red flags and police uniform were seized from the spot.
A massive combing operation has been launched in and around the area, he said.
