Kolkata photographers presented National Photography Awards

New Delhi, Mar 29 (UNI) Pravin Rawat from Indore and Jayanta Roy from Kolkata were today given away the first prize in the Black and White and Colour Section respectively of 18th National Photo Contest, whose theme was 'Life and Water'.

The awards were presented by Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Pradeep Singh.

A total of 2,018 entries were received for the competition from 524 entrants from different parts of the country.

A National Jury comprising of renowned and eminent photographers went through all the entries and selected a total number of 133 photographs for the exhibition in addition to the award wining photographs.

The second prize went to Mr Puranjit Gangopadhyay in the Black&White category, while in the colour category, this prize was bagged by Kumar Paul. Both of them hail from Kolkata.

The winners of the third prize in the Black and white and colour categories are Hemshankar Pathak and Mahendra Rathore (both from Indore).

The first prize carries a cash award of Rs 20,000, a memento and a citation. The second and third prizes comprise of Rs 15,000 Rs 10,000 respectively with a memento and citation.

On this occasion, an exhibition of the selected photographs was also inaugurated. It will remain open till April 2.

The Photo Division of the Ministry of Information&Broadcasting organises the photo contest in which photographers can send a maximum number of four photographs.

The aim of the contest is to encourage the talent available in the country.
