Israel kills Palestinian militant: Security sources
Jenin (West Bank), Mar 28: Israeli soldiers today shot dead a Palestinian militant during an exchange of fire in a village near the West Bank town of Jenin, Palestinian security sources said.
The violence occurred as Israel held an election considered a referendum on the future of isolated Jewish settlements in the occupied territory and the Islamic militant group Hamas sought a vote of confidence in the Palestinian parliament for a new government.
The sources said troops and the gunman from the Islamic Jihad militant group exchanged fire near the gunman's home, apparently when they came to arrest him, and that he was killed.
The Israeli army had no immediate comment.
