Iran Vice-President meets AP CM

Hyderabad, Mar 28 (UNI) Islamic Republic of Iran Vice-President H E Rahim Mashaee today invited Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy to visit his country.

Mr Mashaee, who called on Dr Reddy in his chambers in the Assembly said Hyderabad had become a favourite centre for higher education and a large number of Iranians were pursuing advanced studies here. Iran was looking forward to investing in tourism in Andhra Pradesh.

Dr Reddy recalled the age-old bonds between Andhra Pradesh, India and Iran. He assured of all cooperation to prospective Iranian traders to invest in the pharma and food processing industries.

Iran as a nation was far away from Hyderabad geographically, but psychologically very near and dear to every resident. The tea in Irani cafes was rich in taste and was an integral part of daily life.

He said importing oil was a serious problem. Last year's steep increase in oil prices had given a serious beating to the economy.

He exuded confidence that ties in culture, trade and industry would continue in years to come. He also highlighted the achievements in rural economy, IT and Communications, agriculture and irrigation.

Dr Reddy conveyed his warmest greetings to Mr Mashaee and all Iranians on the occasion of the Republic Day of Iran on April 1.

Deputy Head Culture Heritage and Tourism Organisation Syed Taha Hashmi, Institute of Anthropology Head Mohd Meen Shukraoe and Deputy Director General Department of International Affairs and Expert Institution Mohd Kazem Qaidi Nasab, were part of the delegation.

Minister for Information and Energy Md Ali Shabbir, Minister for Minorities Welfare Fareeduddin and other senior officials were present on the occasion, according to official release.
