Cash reward for CWG winners: Govt

Shimla, Mar 28: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today (Mar 28, 2006) announced cash reward to shooters from the state, who won eleven medals among them at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.

Athletes who won a gold medal would be given a reward of Rs five lakh, Rs three lakh for a silver and Rs two lakh for bronze medal winners, he said in the assembly here.

Samresh Jung, his wife Anuja, and Vijay Kumar won eight gold, two silver and one bronze medals out of a total of 22 medals won by India.

The Chief Minister said he was sure that the path-breaking achievement of the these athletes would spur the zeal and ambition of all talented sportspersons in the state.

He hoped that the athletes would put up a better performance at the coming Asian Games in Qatar, next year's Beijing Olympics and Commonwealth Games in 2010.
