Growth of Sericulture to generate employment: Governor

Imphal, Mar 28 (UNI) Manipur Governor Dr S S Sidhu emphasised that sericulture industry in the state should be encouraged to facilitate employment generation.

The Governor, while addressing a seri-products fair at Imphal yesterday, said the climate in this region was suitable to rear silk worms.

The government has introduced a sericulture scheme for this industry, he said.

Oak is also found in the hilly areas in abundance and Tasar could also help employment generation.

The state Minister of Sericulture N Mangi said, ''Japan has provided financial assistance to the government for various projects. About 30,000 people would get job oppourtunity if these project materialises.'' The minister said Karnataka was another state which produces lots of seri-products in the country.
