Gokaldas Exports to set up an SEZ for apparel and textiles

Mumbai, Mar 28 (UNI) Garments and apparel export major Gokaldas Exports Limited (GEL) has received approval from the government of Karnataka to set up an exclusive special economic zone (SEZ) for apparel and textiles on Kanakapura Road near Harohalli.

The SEZ, to be set up at an investment of Rs 1,250 crore, would be spread over 400 acres and would house 50 factories with a total employment of 50,000 workmen, a release issued here stated.

The world-class apparel and textile park will house a customs office, banks, effluent treatment plant, dispensaries, shopping area and restaurants, container freight station and a truck yard, among other facilities.

The park will also have an independent apparel training centre and a laboratory for testing of fabrics and raw materials.

Stating that the total export revenue from this proposed SEZ will be to the tune of Rs 2,500 crore, the release stated that the park will consist of spinning and weaving units, dyeing units, garmenting units and other allied manufacturing activities.

It has been planned to be completed within the next two years, the release added.
