Five per cent power reserve by end of 12th plan: CEAC

Hyderabad, Mar 28 (UNI) Stating that the country, at present, has an installed capacity of 1.24 lakh MW power production, Central Electricity Authority Committee member R K Jain today said India would achieve five per cent reserve power by the end of 2017 when the 12th Plan period ends.

Talking to mediapesons here, he said the country was facing shortage of power by 11 per cent to meet its requirements.

The government has plans of producing 67,000 MW power each in the 11 th and 12th Plans in public and private partnership.

'' We will soon reach a stage when the country would have a power reserve by the end of the 12th Plan'', he added.

Stating that private companies had been producing 10,000 MW of power, Mr Jain said they would be given priority in the power sector by inviting international companies to produce quality power with low cost.
