Executives need to understand environmental aspects

Ranchi, Mar 28 (UNI) Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) (eastern region) convenor SDCA sub-committee Ms S Sharma today said the industries need to understand and manage the environmental impact of their activities.

Addressing a seminar on ''Multi-stakeholder Engagement in Achieving Millenium Development Goal, Role of Extractive industry,'' she said special CSR initiatives should be undertaken and communicated to their employees, neighbours, investors and other interested parties.

Mr M K Jhawar, Chairman SDCA national council and Chairman, Usha Martin group of companies, said it was important to assess and accept CSR as a key to growth of industry.

He reiterated the importance of public, private and people partnership.

He suggested that the CII UNDP Dungarpur, Rajasthan model could be replicated in the state of Jharkhand.

Mr Viraf Mehta, CEO, Partners in Charge, said millenium development goals provide a framework of achieving a specific result that could be compared with other countries as well.

Keynote speaker Dr K K Pathak, said one needs to be a wealth distributor and not just a wealth creator.

Other Speakers included Mr U Ramachandran, Tata Steel, Mr Subir Sen, Usha Martin and Mr Sujjet Rangjan, CARE.
