Delimitation final draft to be ready by May end
Mumbai, Mar 28 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) U P S Madan today said the final draft of the delimitation of Assembly and Parliamentary constituencies in the State would be ready by May end.
Addressing a press conference Mr Madan said the notification of the revised draft proposals of the delimitation has been issued today and suggestions have been invited on the proposals till April 13.
He informed that public hearings would be held in Aurangabad (May 2), Pune (May 3), and Nagpur (May 6). Hearing for Konkan will be held in Mumbai on May 4 and for constituencies in Mumbai, on May 5.
The final draft will be sent to the President of India for approval. Mr Madan said the final report cannot be challenged in the court of law and there is no provision for debate in the Parliament,'' Mr Madan added.
He said there are 29 Scheduled Caste reserved assembly constituencies and 25 Scheduled Tribe constituencies out of the 288 legislative assembly segments while there are five Scheduled Caste and four Scheduled Tribe reserved Parliamentary constituencies out of the total 48.
Mr Madan said so far ten states have sent their final drafts to the President of India. The next assembly and Parliamentary elections would be held as per the new constituencies.
In Maharashtra, the delimitation of existing constituencies will see emergence of Mumbai, Thane and Konkan with a total of 75 assembly constituencies.
