Court rejects Kasliwal's bail application

Mumbai, Mar 28 (UNI) A local court today rejected the bail application of Abhishek Kasliwal, accused of raping a 52-year-old woman in his car in the compound of his family-owned Shriram mills at Worli in South Central Mumbai on March 12.

Rejecting his bail plea, adhoc Additional Sessions Judge D D Joshi said since the offence was of serious nature, he could tamper documentary evidence if released on bail.

Kasliwal (27) is in judicial custody till April four.

He had moved the application on the ground that investigation had been completed and he had been subjected to lie detector and brain mapping tests besides his identification parade held last week.

He was booked under IPC 376 (rape) and 325 (grievous injury) on a complaint by the woman, hailing from Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. Police had also seized his Mercedes car in which the crime was allegedly committed.

The victim, in her complaint, said she took a lift in the car of the accused at Colaba to be dropped at Mumbai central railway station to enable her catch a local train to reach home in Nayagaon.

She alleged that she was instead driven to the mills' compound where she was raped and then dropped back in the area from where she was picked up.
