SAARC Speakers and Parliamentarians meet begins

Colombo, Mar 28: The fourth conference of the Association of SAARC Speakers and Parliamentarians began here today.

A seven-member Indian Parliamentary delegation led by Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha Charnjit Singh Atwal is attending the meet which will have three business sessions.

According to a statement from the Indian High Commission here, the Mr Atwal will interact with a number of Sri Lankan dignitaries during the visit.

''The High Commissioner for India in Sri Lanka Mrs Nirupama Rao is hosting a reception in honour of the Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha and the visiting Indian delegation today, '' the High Commission statement said.

The delegation comprising parliamentarians Mr Prasanna Acharya, Dr K Malaisamy, Dr Karan Singh Yadav and Secretary General of the Lok Sabha Secretariat, Mr PDT Achary among others, will also visit the historical sites of Kandy, Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa before returning home on Monday.
