AIADMK manifesto criticises UPA govt of misuse of power

Chennai, Mar 28 (UNI) The ruling AIADMK in Tamil Nadu today criticised the UPA government for its ''misuse of power, corruption and anti-people policies''.

The AIADMK in its election manifesto, released by party General Secretary and Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, charged that the Centre, in the name of liberalisation, had permitted foreign direct investment in retail trade with the intention of ''crushing small and medium retail traders and the poorest sections of society.'' Condemning the double standard of the DMK, which conveyed its approval in the Union Cabinet meeting for allowing FDI in the retail trade and criticised it in Tamil Nadu, it said the AIADMK Government would continue to take vigorous action in the interest of small and medium traders.

The AIADMK strongly condemned Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran for securing the portfolio of Communication and Information Technology allegedly for his ''personal business''.

It also flayed the Union Ministers belonging to the DMK for ''stalling the desalination project and the new secretariat complex.'' ''They collaborated with the Centre in refusing adequate financial assistance for the relief and rehabilitation of fishermen affected by tsunami,'' it charged.

Charging that the Central Government functions in the state as the Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA) here, the AIADMK resolved to take legal action to put an end to it.
