4000 Mw ultra mega power project in Orissa

New Delhi, Mar 28 (UNI) The country's sixth ultra mega power project is likely to come up in Orissa.

The Power Finance Corporation of India (PFC) is planning to set up a 4000 Mw project in Orissa at a cost of Rs 15,000 crore, official sources said today.

It would be a coal pithead project based on indigenous coal, and scheduled to be completed by May next year.

Sources said Andhra Pradesh was also keen to have a ultra mega project of 4,000 Mw.

They, however, added that the transfer deadlines for the Karnataka, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh ultra mega projects would not be met by December 31, 2006, and would be delayed by some months.

They said the Power Ministry had so far firmed up allocation of 16,000 Mw from the ultra mega power projects to meet the total demand of 27,400 Mw from 13 states.
