29 Asom Govt employees suspended

Silchar, Mar 28 (UNI) Altogether 29 Asom government employees, including 23 teachers, allegedly supporters of state Public Health Engineering (PHE) minister Dinesh Prasad Goala, were suspended for defying election code of conduct.

Goala is the Congress nominee for Lakhipur segment.

The employees, found campaigning for the Congress candidate in Lakhipur, were suspended yesterday.

Ramesh Goala, an assistant teacher of Jamalpar Girls ME School in Cachar district, was in the list of suspended employees. He is also the PHE minister's younger brother.

Cachar District Returning Officer (RO) G D Tripathi said that after receiving complaints about the government employees' involvement in campaign for certain political parties while ignoring their own official duties, Cachar district administration ordered an inquiry into the subject. The employees were suspended yesterday.

An FIR was filed by the concerned Magistrate (an ADC of Cachar district) with Lakhipur police station. The Magistrate has urged the RO to take action against these employees for breaching election code of conduct.

The RO of Cachar has also transferred one Daliur Reman Barbhuiya, a senior inspector of co-operative department, who was serving in Silchar for last 15 years.

Barbhuiya was involved in campaigning for some candidates in the coming polls.
