13th open university of the country set up in Uttaranchal
Hardwar, Mar 28 (UNI) The 13th open university of the country, Uttaranchal Open University, will start functioning at Haldwani from July, Vice Chancellor S S Hasan today said.
The newly appointed vice chancellor (VC) Prof Hasan said while talking to reporters that the university will have four regional centres and 25 study centres, mostly in the remote areas of the hills so that the benefits of education might reach the remote areas.
Even those who have not obtained any certificate of formal education can take admission in the graduate courses of the university, provided they pass an entrance test which will be conducted by the university in May, he said.
He added that the university would be the only university in the country imparting distant education in English, Hindi&Urdu medium.
Prof Hasan pointed out that since the university would mainly cater to the requirements of Uttaranchal, the focus would be on subjects such as forestry, tourism&hotel management, food processing, micro energy generation&natural resource development programmes which might help in harnessing the natural resources of the state.
