Circuit bench: Hiremath expects solid steps from K'taka Govt
Dharwad, Karnataka, Mar 27 (UNI) Dharwad Bar Association President B D Hiremath, whose fast-unto-death stir seeking early commencement of construction work for a circuit bench of the High Court here entered the third day today, refused to accept an assurance from Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy to sanction funds for the purpose.
''Unless something concrete came from the Government in writing, I shall not withdraw the fast,'' he told reporters here after Mr Kumaraswamy assured him over phone to earmark funds, while urging him to withdraw the fast.
Former Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party State President S Bangarappa called on Mr Hiremath.
Addressing the agitators, Mr Bangarappa said lack of political will by the Government had led to delay in setting up the circuit bench. Though no budgetary allocation was made for setting up the circuit bench, there was still a possibility of earmarking funds for the purpose as the Chief Minister had the power to do so. Besides, the budget was yet to be passed by the Legislature, he added.
Meanwhile, the agitating Bar members boycotted court proceedings and staged a road blockade for over an hour. Later, they proceeded to the Tahsildar's office and forced the staff to stop work.
