Over hundred houses gutted: 500 families rendered homeless

Kohima, Mar 25 (UNI) Over one hundred houses were reduced to ashes and more than five hundred families rendered homeless, when a major fire broke out in the Ghorapatti area of Dimapur town last night.

Official sources said the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, but it was suspected that the fire spread from a lighted candle. However, no casualty was reported so far.

Altogether five fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the flames in the densely populated area. Property worth several lakhs was damaged.
