Man gets 5 year RI for raping a 23 year-old

New Delhi, Mar 25 (UNI) A city court today sentenced a 30 year-old-man to five years rigorous imprisonment for raping a woman in the Badarpur 'jhuggi' area two years ago.

Patiala House Court Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) S P Garg, held Karan guilty of raping the 23 year-old and sentenced him to five years imprisonment.

The court further slapped a fine of Rs 500 on Karan.

The convict, Karan, knew the prosecutrix, and had an affair with her for four years prior to the incident on August 7, 2004.

The prosecutrix deposed in the court that, "on the day of incident, the convict came along with two of his associates to her home. The associates stayed outside the 'jhuggi' and the convict raped her in the jhuggi,'' The judge said in his order that, ''the prosecutrix had established the fact that, the convict had committed rape and he should be given punishment for this.'' Karan was convicted under section 376 (Rape) of the Indian Penal Code (ipc).
