Jammu, Mar 25: In its ongoing effort to win the hearts and minds of the local populace and provide a healing touch, Army today (Mar 25, 2006) set up a pickle-making project at village Gura Salathian near Vijaypur, 30 km from here.

Mrs Jas Dhaliwal, President, Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) Tiger Division inaugurated the project named as ''Fauji Pickle Company'' and dedicated it to the women of the village.

Earlier Tiger Division also organised a training camp for women in the food processing and fruit preservation business.

Keeping up with the objectives of the Army Wives Welfare Association, the aim of this project is to empower women folk particularly the families of ex-servicemen. The project will not only induce a feeling of self-reliance and confidence amongst the women but also provide them with sources of additional income.

Mrs Dhaliwal said the army would monitor and assist the project by providing necessary guidance and initially help ink marking the produce. Measures like these not only strengthen ties between the Army and the local population but also give impetus to the image of the Army, she added.
