Written by: Staff

Pondicherry, Mar 24 (UNI) As many as 88 Youth Congress volunteers were arrested when they burnt in effigy BJP leader L K Advani in connection with the resignation of Sonia Gandhi yesterday.

The volunteers gathered at the Kamaraj square here and shouted slogans, denouncing the BJP and its leaders A B Vajpayee and Advani for ''forcing the resignation'' of Mrs Gandhi.

Police said a car halted at the signal and an effigy was thrown out of it, doused with petrol and set on fire. The police tried to put out the flames by pouring water on it. However, the volunteers snatched the bucket from the police personnel. Three police personnel, including a sub-inspector sustained injuries in the melee.
