Sustainable marketing is key to success of SHGs: Raghuvansh
New Delhi, Mar 24 (UNI) Rural Development Minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh today stressed the need for evolving strategies for marketing of rural products by self help groups under the Swaranjayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojna.
Mr Singh said this while addressing a brain storming session on marketing strategies for SGSY products. SGSY is a holistic programme covering all aspects of self employment such as organisations of the poorest into Self Help Groups training, credit, technology, infrastructure and marketing.
Over 58 lakh poor household in rural areas are members of SHGs set up under the self employment programmes of the ministry and either produce items for markets or are likely to very soon avail of credit and move to the production phase. Products and services provided by these groups must be linked to growing markets in the locality, eleswhere in the country and even internationaly to enable them to generate sustained and steadily increasing incomes for these households.
