Rape accused arrested in Nizamabad

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Mar 24 (UNI) The City's cantonment police have arrested a 35-yr-old man, Amjad Sheikh Chand, accused of raping a 52-yr-old woman in Maliwada locality here on March 14.

Acting on a tip-off, the police team nabbed the accused in Nizamabad, Andhra Pradesh yesterday and brought him here today.

The accused allegedly raped the woman before assaulting her husband, who had tried to prevent him, police said.

The victim and her husband had come to the city a few days back from the neighbouring Buldhana district and were assisting the priest in a temple at Maliwada, Assistant Commissioner of Police Navin Chandra Reddy said.

Police have registered an offence against chand under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

A local court has remanded him to five days' police custody, police added.
