Punjab agrees to release water for Rajasthan
Jaipur, Mar 24 (UNI) Punjab has agreed to release water for Rajasthan following Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's intervention.
According to sources, Punjab is likely to release 50,000 cusecs of water from Ranjit Sagar Dam for seven days which will help save wheat crops in Hanumangarh, Ganaganagar, Bikaner, Jaisalmer and Barmer districts.
Earlier, Punjab had reduced Rajasthan's share from 10,000 cusecs per day to 3,000 cusecs since March 21, saying Rajasthan had already utilised its full share of water, which it was to get till March 31.
Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje had in a letter to the Prime Minister asked him to impress upon Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh to release water for Rajasthan.
