Property over Rs 50 lakh burnt in Shimla

Shimla, Mar 24 (UNI) Property estimated to be woth over Rs 50 lakh was destroyed in a devastating fire in two godowns of two transport companies in Shimla town of Himachal Pradesh late last night, but no loss of life was reported in the incident, fire and police today said.

The fire, which was reported at about 0030 hrs, gutted property estimated to be over Rs 50 lakh, while medicines, readymade garments and motor spare parts over Rs five crore were salvaged after the workers moved these from the godowns.

Shimla ASP Virender Kanwar said police suspected that the fire might have been caused due to a live cigarette butt that had been thrown by a worker, adding that investigations were on to ascertain the cause of the fire.

He said firemen battled fire for over five hrs to bring it under control, but added no loss of life was reported in the incident.

Five other adjoining shops were also gutted in the fire.

A case has been registered and investigations were on, he added.
