Kohima, Mar 24 (UNI) The Dimapur Bar Association (DBA) today claimed that people in Nagaland wanted judiciary to be separated from executive as notified by the state government in July 27, 1999.

In a release, DBA president D K Nagi said that opinions have been elicited form cross sections of the community through questionnare on the subject of separation of judiciary from the executive as per the decision taken by the high power committee constituted by the government. Mr Nagi said that out of 55 responses, 51 were in favour of separation and four against it.

He, however, expressed disappointment that the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland government under Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, has prepared to introduce an agenda in the Legislative Assembly for a resolution to be passed for separation of judicuary from the execurive ''only in the district of Dimapur''.

Terming the step undertaken by the government as 'highly absurd' and against the mandate of the people, the DBA agrued that in a democratic government, the mandate of the public reigns supreme and politicians were bound by them.

Mr Rio replying to a cut motion on the demands for grants in the Assembly had said the separation of judiciary from executive could not be done due to certain provisions of Article 371(a) and customary laws prevailing in the state.
