Mumbai Cong holds solidarity show for Sonia

Mumbai, Mar 24 (UNI) Mumbai Congress today held a 'solidarity show', backing AICC president Sonia Gandhi in her decision to quit as MP and chairperson of the National Advisory Council (NAC), with the city unit resolving to prevent senior BJP leader L K Advani's proposed rath yatra from entering Mumbai.

Party's city unit chief Gurudas Kamat while addressing a gathering at the party office said he had conveyed the sentiments of the Congress activists in Mumbai including MLAs, MPs and corporators expressing their readiness to resign from their seats in support of Ms Gandhi, who in turn had advised them against such move.

Mr Kamat said Ms Gandhi had told him that there were a lot of developmental issues facing Mumbai and the party needed its representatives in the decision-making process.

Mr Kamat, who announced his resignation as MP and city unit president post yesterday, asked party activists to prevent the BJP's proposed yatra from entering Mumbai which he said was intended to spread hatred among religious communities and society.
