ITC to organise Scientific Tamil Conference

Chennai, Mar 24: The US-based International Tamil Centre's (ITC) India branch would organise a one-day inaugural Scientific Tamil Conference here on March 26, to propagate the specialities of the Tamil language and Tamil culture and coordinate the Tamils living in different parts of the world.

Addressing a press conference here yesterday, Popular Carnatic musicians Sudha Raghunathan and Manimegalai Kannan, President and Secretary respectively of the ITC's India branch said the ITC had started its maiden branch in India and would start similar branches all over the world, especially in the countries where the Tamils live in large numbers.

They said the aim of the ITC was the growth of the language, establishment of educational research centres, translation of the popular Tamil literatures in other languages, fight for the rights of the Tamils in the world and unite them all under one umbrella.

They said the Conference would be inaugurated by DMK President M Karunanidhi. Among the others who participated in the function were Union Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation G K Vasan and eminent educationalist Dr V C Kulandaisamy.

ITC's President Vincent Panchatsaram said the ITC is planning to establish its headquarters at New York in a 1000-acre site, with an investment of several crores.

Dr Vincent said the project will be implemented in three-phases.
