Mathura, Mar 24 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh police has claimed that criminals having base in neighbouring Haryana were causing law and order problem in the Agra region of the state.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Agra Range Mukul Goel, addressing a press conference said here today, said that though the major dacoit gangs had been eliminated from the region, crimes like abduction were still taking place.

''Petty criminals are being hired by notorious gangs based in neighbouring states especially Haryana to committ crimes like loot and abduction in this region of Western UP,'' Mr Goel maintained.

Mr Goel further said that scarcity of adequate police force in the region has hampered total control over crimes, but all efforts were underway to manage with the present police strength.

Intelligence network has been activated in sensitive areas to apply a preventive check on crimes, he added.
