Greek boxer dies in hospital
ATHENS, Mar 24 (Reuters) A 21-year-old Greek boxer died in Patras today after suffering severe head injuries during a bout last Saturday, according to state broadcaster ERT.
Dimitris Livadas, an amateur boxer competing in the middleweight (75 kilos) division of a local championship, collapsed towards the end of his fight and went into a coma.
Doctors at the University Hospital in Patras said he had suffered from brain swelling and haemorrhaging and he failed to regain consciousness.
His death follows that of another boxer Thanassis Miliordos after a fight at the same Patras venue in September 2000.
