Imphal, Mar 24 (UNI) Governor Dr S S Sidhu today called upon the women in the state to contribute towards ensuring peace in Manipur.

Speaking as the Chief Guest at a seminar today on 'Role of Women' organised by Institute of Social Change and Development and Public Affairs section of the US, the Governor said women have helped in bringing social change and development in the insurgency prone region.

He said militancy was the biggest threat to our internal security.

Mr Sidhu said, '' Wheels of development move faster when there is peace. In Manipur, ethnic clashes, extortions, abduction and killings continue to be a cause of serious concern and women should play an important role in the upliftment of the society''.

He said Manipur was lagging behind due to militancy and there were daunting tasks to be accomplished.

Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University Prof S Amuba, former minister Prof Gangmumei Kamei presented papers on role of women during the seminar.
