Fresh snowfall on upper reaches including Gulmarg in Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 24 (UNI) The world famous ski resort of Gulmarg and other upper reaches in the Kashmir valley experienced fresh snowfall since early this morning while plains had light rains.

The 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway was OPEN and all the incoming and outgoing flights operated normally, officials said.

However, the 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh national highway remained closed due to heavy snowfall since November 17 for the six winter months.

An official of the Gandola Cable Car Project (GCCP) official told UNI over phone that ski slopes of Gulmarg experienced fresh snowfall since early this morning.

As the snow started this morning, tourists from different states were seen dancing and throwing snow on each besides taking photographs.

A Majority of tourists said they witnessed the snowfall for the first time in their lives though they had seen snowfall in the films and television.

About three to four feet of snowfall was still on the slopes, the official said.

Reports of fresh snowfall were also received from Khilanmarg, Upperwat and seven springs.

It was also snowing at holy Amarnath cave, Mahaguns, Pissu top and Panjtherni, reports said.

The plains had light rains resulting in cold.
