Fresh snow in tribal districts
Shimla, Mar 24 (UNI) The high altitude areas of tribal districts of Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnuar, Kullu and Chamba and other higher hills of Himachal Pradesh were receiving fresh snowfall, intensifying cold wave conditions there, even as the day temperature continued to remain high in mid and lower hills of the state.
The higher hills of the tribal districts were experiencing snowfall since this afternoon, bringing down day and night temperatures in these districts.
The maximum temperature recorded at Keylong, the district headquarter of Lahaul-Spiti, was minus two degrees, while the minimum temperature was eight degree Celsius below freezing point.
Heavy snowfall in March triggers avalanches that damage green pastures and fields, besides damaging the lower dry areas of the district.
Official sources said the snow clearing work on the Manali-Keylong road had been disrupted due to heavy snow and sub zero temperatures, adding that bus service between Koksar and Keylong had not yet resumed.
An official spokesman of the district administration has advised people not to walk long distances along the roads due to threat of avalanches in the area.
He also urged the local people not to harm rare species of wild animals who had migrated to lower areas due to late snow in the higher reaches of the district.
