Cong MLC offers to resign in support of Sonia

Lucknow, Mar 24 (UNI) A Congress MLC in Uttar Pradesh, whose term ends in a month's time, today sent his resignation to AICC president Sonia Gandhi, in support of the latter's move to step down from her Lok Sabha seat following controversy over office of profit issue.

Siraj Mehendi today claimed he has sent his resignation letter to Ms Gandhi with a request that she would in turn send it to Chairman of the UP Vidhan Prishad. ''I have also resigned from the post of member of the upper house's housing committee,'' he added.

Mehendi's term is ending shortly and the party has not renominated him.
