CEC to visit Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry next week

New Delhi, Mar 24 (UNI) Chief Election Commissioner B B Tandon along with his deputies N Gopalaswami and Navin Chawla, will visit Pondicherry on March 27 and Tamil Nadu on March 28 and 29 to oversee arrangements for the forthcoming assembly elections.

The three held a briefing meeting for observers who are being deployed for elections to legislative assemblies of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry.

Mr Tandon said 234 general and 50 expenditure observers are being deployed in Tamil Nadu. A total of 86 general and 30 expenditure observers will be deployed in Kerala and nine general and five expenditure observers will be posted in Pondicherry.

There are 4.64 crore voters in Tamil Nadu, 2.12 crore in Kerala and 6.5 lakh in Pondicherry, said Mr Tandon.

The observers will undertake confidence building measures and keep a watch on state government officials. They will also supervise deployment of central paramilitary forces and armed personnel for booth management.

Extensive videography will be done on dates of polling and counting, said Mr Tandon.
