BMC demolishes 1524 encorachments in metropolis

Mumbai, Mar 24 (UNI) The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) today demolished 1,524 illegal structures, including huts and hawkers' sheds, across the metropolis in a massive demolition drive launched with the help of police.

The drive in all 24 wards was launched after BMC Commissioner Johny Joseph ordered demolition of all illegal structures which came up after 2000.

BMC spokesperson Dadasaheb Shivjatak said 1,138 illegal structures were dismantled in the city, 232 in western suburbs and 154 in eastern suburbs of the metropolis in a single day.
