BJP opposes passing PoD Bill, Chaos prevails in House

Dehradun, 24 Mar (UNI) Chaos prevailed in the Uttaranchal Assembly today as BJP legislators rushed into the well of the house protesting against the government passing Prevention of Disqualification Bill.

They started shouting slogans against the Congress government and Congress President Sonia Gandhi, in retaliation to which members from the treasury benches too started sloganeering in Ms Gandhi's favour. For more than an hour, members of both the parties continued their verbal duel till the House was adjourned by Speaker Yashpal Ayra till 1300 hrs. The House was again adjourned for the second time within two minutes of its resumption till 1500 hrs.

The BJP legislators were seeking resignation of 13 Congress MLAs who allegedly hold an office of profit and opposing passing of 'Prevention of Disqualification Bill.

The BJP members, under the leadership of State President Bhagat Singh Koshyari and Leader of the Opposition Matbar Singh Kandari, had met Governor Sudarshan Agarwal late last evening after Ms Gandhi's resignation, seeking disqualification of these 13 MLAs in case they do not resign on their own from the Assembly.
