New Delhi, Mar 24 (UNI) BJP leader Varun Gandhi has stressed the need for a security cover at all religious places in the country which should be considered by all political parties above the vote bank politics.

In an article in the RSS mouthpiece 'Panchjanya', he said the attack on Sankat Mochan temple in Varanasi was on the ''soul of India'', as the religious places were part of Indian civilisation. ''The attack on the temple cannot be taken as an isolated incident but part of a wider strategy to create disturbance in the country.'' There was need to fight this kind of ''terrorists' war'' on the country immediately and with a resolve, he opined.

It was, therefore, necessary that the national polity should strive to build more tolerance among various religions to deal with anti-national powers through a strong legislation and provide a security cover to all religious places, the son of political leader and animal activist Ms Maneka Gandhi said.

He said the government had failed to take any decision to strongly contain the terrorist activities inside and from across the border.

Besides, the government also deliberately delayed a legislation to deal with secessionist activities in the north-eastern states and make adequate security arrangements to protect Ram Janmabhoomi purely to safeguard its own vote bank. It also failed to identify the communal forces which were trying to create terror in the country, he felt.

He said Indians, irrespective of their religion, were very god-fearing. ''Religion is their soul. The situation in Pakistan and Bangladesh is also no different as the people there also follow the same culture. Therefore, it is imperative that the political leaders face the truth about the greatest challenge before the country -- a challenge to our culture and need to keep a balance between different religions and nationalism,'' he suggested.

Mr Gandhi regretted the tendency among some people to become inimical to the national interests. He said US President George Bush had not done anything against India but demonstrations were held against him because of an article against Prophet Mohammad in a Denmark newspaper. This showed that some vested interests were out to create communal hatred in the name of exercising their democratic rights.

He, however, clarified that he was not accusing any particular group or community but the common man was becoming victim to these fundamentalist forces which were pursuing their divisive agenda.

And if it was not so, why they had not staged similar demonstrations after attacks on Akshar Dham or Sankat Mochan temples, he asked.

The young BJP leader said the people belonging to various religions must realise that their future was linked to the future of the country. If they wanted to demonstrate against incidents in other countries, why they did not do so when terrorists attacked Shia Masjid in Iraq. ''Or when the journalist Daniel Pearl was killed in Pakistan....'' Mr Gandhi said a particular section of the country considered President Bush as against its religion only because of America's invasion on Afghanistan and Iraq. But these fundamentalist leaders must understand that they were creating a generation which would be the future of the country, he added.
