Alert in AP after Orissa naxal attack

Visakhapatnam, Mar 24 (UNI) Following the massive attack launched by Maoists on Udaygiri town in Ganjam district of Orissa which left two policemen killed, police in the north coastal districts of the state which have common border with Orissa, were put on red alert today.

Visakha Range DIG N Madan Mohan, who rushed to Srikakulam following the incident, told UNI that police and CRPF in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhpatnam districts were put on red alert.

An intensified combing operation began in the border areas and police officials were in close touch with their counterparts in Orissa.

A high-level joint meeting of police officers of the two states would be held soon, he added.
