Adhunik Metalix ransacked;80 people injured in police action

Rourkela, Mar 24 (UNI) Over eighty tribal agitators were injured in police action when hundreds of them forcibly entered the Adhunik Metalix and ransacked it demanding job to the local people.

Police said nearly 1000 tribals, led by former MLA George Tirkey, under the banner of Kuarmunda Anchalik Surakhya Samittee ransacked the Adhunik Metalix and attacked the officials.

The police had to resort to lathi charge and fired four rounds to disperse the violent mob which ransacked the plant.

Police claimed that no one has been injured in firing.

Panposh Sub Collector Asit Jena and Adhunik Metalix Executive Director Arun Kathoria were injured and admitted to hospital.

The police have rounded up fifty tribal agitators, including Mr Tirkey. The situation in the area is reported to be tense.

Over hundreds of workers had congregated at the plant site demanding release of Mr Tirkey and his supporters. Reinforcement has been sent to the site to bring the situation under control.
