Voters without photo ID get alternative identity documents
Guwahati, Mar 22 (UNI) Voters who have not received their photo identity cards will have a choice of 21 alternative documents to exercise their franchise in Asom, an Election Commission notification said.
As per the EC directives the documents include passport, driving license, income tax identity (PAN) card, service identity card issued to its employees by state/central governments, public sector units, local bodies or public limited companies.
It further said pass books issued by public sector banks/post offices/kishan passbook (account opened on or before February 28, 2006 and ration card issued on or before Decemer 31, 2005) will also be valid.
Caste (ST/SC/OBC) certificates issued by competent authorities on or before February 28, 2006, students identity cards issued by any recognised educational institutions on or before February 28, 2006, registered property documents like patta etc, arms licence issued on or before Februay 28,2006, transport conduct licence, pension documents of ex-servicemen/widow or dependent of ex-servicemen, railway identity card issued on or before February 28, 2006 and freedom fighters identity cards will also be valid, it said.
Other documents include physically handicapped certificate, permanent resident certificate, certificate issued by tea garden authorities on or before February 28, 2006, certificate by respective panchayat raj bodies, school certificate issued by school run/recognised by government or local authorities, revenue certificate issued by authorised revenue officers, including mouzadars on or before February 28, 2006 and domicile certificate issued by government authority.
The notification also stated that all members of the family are entitled to use any of the above mentiond document even if it was issued in the name of the head of the family or any other member of the family.
