Venkiah calls for Congress' ouster
Guwahati, Mar 22 (UNI) Former BJP president Venkiah Naidu today called on the people of Asom to defeat the ruling Congress in the coming Assembly polls, terming the Tarun Gogoi-led government as "corrupt and weak".
Talking to newsmen here, Mr Naidu said the election results in the four states going to polls with Asom would decide the future course of political events in the country.
West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerela and Pondicherry are also facing elections.
Claiming that the Congress would be defeated in Asom, Kerela and Pondicherry, he said, '' The defeat of the Congress in these three states will put the stability of the UPA government at the centre in question. '' The BJP leader came down heavily on the government "shielding" the Bangladeshi infiltrators in the state through the IMDT Act.
Claiming that the Congress was trying to revive the scrapped IMDT Act in the form of the Foreigners (Tribunal) Act, he said, '' They (Congress) are moving heaven and earth to incorporate all the nefarious provisions of the IMDT Act into the Foreigners' Act and extend them to the whole country. '' Referring to the AASU's movement against influx and the martyrs of the movement, Mr Naidu said only his party could scrap the IMDT Act entirely through its three '' Ds (Detect, Delete and Deport).
He also flayed the AGP for going back on its earlier stand on the IMDT Act.
To a poser, he said the party had not entered into any understanding with the AGP. '' We will not go for secret understanding but opt for sacred understanding, '' he opined.
He urged the people to be prepared for a ''surprise mandate'', as he claimed a silent anti-Congress wave was blowing through the state.
To another query, Mr Naidu said the party would announce a Chief Ministerial candidate for the state once it comes to power.
