UP treasury employees on indefinite strike from Mar 27

Kanpur, Mar 22 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh treasury department employees would observe state-wide indefinite strike from March 27 to protest the ''non-payment of salary and arrears'' despite Allahabad High Court directives.

UP Treasury Association president Naeem-ud-din Siddiqui yesterday said since the government had ignored the court's directive, the employees had no alternative other than indefinite strike.

''The government was given sufficient time to fulfill our demands, but our notices were ignored following red-tapism.'' He also threatened to paralyse payments from treasury, as it was the last month and last week of the current fiscal.

Meanwhile, the employees boycotted work between 1000 and 1200 hrs from today and it will continue till March 23.

The employees will boycott full work on March 24 and 25 and resort to ''direct action from March 27, if the government failed to meet our demands.'' Siddiqui informed that following the initiative of Surendra Mohan, UP Financial Advisor, the UP government had called a meeting with the Association at Lucknow today to discuss the matter.
