PM for resolution of insurgency problems in Manipur

Imphal, Mar 22 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has assured Manipur Platform of Mass Organisation (MPMO) representatives and Left leaders to hold talks with Chief Minister Ibobi Singh and take steps to end insurgency and bring peace in the region.

The MPMO representatives, who came back today from New Delhi, told mediapersons here that CPI Secretary D Raja, CPM senior MP Nilotpal Basu and Manipur unit of CPI(M) Secretary KSH Santa were part of the delegation.

They said the Prime Minister had discussed with them the ways to end insurgency problems in the state through peaceful means.

They had urged the Prime Minister to declare a unilateral ceasefire with the insurgents in the state as it was one of the worst militancy hit states in the country.

The Prime Minister had given an assurance to the delegates to resolve the problem through political means, MPMO representatives said.

The Prime Minister stated that the Centre would protect territorial integrity of the NE states as mentioned in the Common Minimum Programme (CMP) by the UPA government, according to the delegates.

He had also given an assurance to announce a package for the overall development of the state.
