Govt to reward Commonwealth medal winners

Imphal, Mar 22: The State government here has announced a Rs 50,000 reward for Kunjarani Devi and Yumnam Renubala Chanu for their gold medal winning performance and Rs 40,000 to Laishram Monika Devi for bagging silver medal in the ongoing Commonwealth games at Melbourne.

The three sportsperson from the state brought glory to the country by winning in different weightlifting categories at the games.

Sports minister K Govindas said financial reward would be given to any other sportsperson from the state if they win medal.

Govindas added that bronze medal winners would be awarded Rs 30,000.

The Minister said all participants would be given Rs 25,000 each while for medal winners in team events Rs 30,000 would be given for gold, Rs 25,000 for silver and Rs 20,000 for bronze medal.

The IG, Assam Rifles on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff General J J Singh today organised a special function at Mantripukhri, Imphal to honour the medal winners from the state.
