Manipur CM to visit villages for inspection

Imphal, Mar 22 (UNI) Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh visit Parbung and Thanlon at Churachandpur in the last week of this month, officials here said.

The CM will address the villagers and inspect the progress of the work taken up to strengthen civil administration.

For almost two decades there were no government offices and police station in the two sub-divisions due to the presence of militants. These areas were sanitised by army in January this year.

The Manipur government has decided to activate the civil administration so that grievances of the people could be addressed, officials added.

Militants had allegedly raped 22 girls at some villages earlier, which had rocked the state Assembly and led to the institution of a judicial inquiry.

Justice S P Rajkhowa Commission has also issued notice asking all to submit statements on the matter within 14 days while the state government has asked the Commission to complete the inquiry within two months.

Meanwhile, the Hmar Students' Association has appealed to the state government to involve the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and National Commission for Women (NCW) in the inquiry.
