AIFF rules in favour of Air India, Fransa forfeits match
New Delhi, Mar 22 (UNI) AIFF today said Air India is not at fault for skipping their National Football League replay match against Fransa Pax and declared the Mumbai side winner of the tie.
Announcing this here today, All India Football Federation (AIFF) Secretary Alberto Colaco said ''The consequences for failure to turn up for a scheduled match are serious. But in the present case Air India is not at fault.'' On February 24, Air India had filed a protest against the AIFF decision to re-play the match against Fransa after the Goan side refused to turn up for the originally scheduled February 3 game, protesting 'poor' refereeing in their earlier match against Mahindra United.
The AIFF then recheduled the match for March 2 but this time Air India protested, calling the decision unfair and sent its players on leave.
The AIFF said Fransa thus forfeits the match and three points have been awarded to Air India.
