RBI to issue Rs 500 banknotes with inset letter 'E'

Written by: Staff

Mumbai, Mar 21 (UNI) Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will shortly issue Rs 500 denomination banknotes with the inset letter 'E' in both numbering panels in the Mahatma Gandhi series-2005.

A press release issued here today said the notes will also have additional and new security features bearing the signature of RBI Governor Dr Y V Reddy.

Except for the change in the inset letter, the design of these notes will be similar in all respects to the banknotes issued earlier in the Mahatma Gandhi series, with the additional and new security features issued on October 21 last year.

All banknotes in the denomination of Rs 500 issued by the Bank after 1987 will continue to be legal tender, the release said.
