Now there is ''ticket thief'' in AGP camp
Guwahati, Mar 21 (UNI) Have you ever heard of a party ''ticket thief''? May be not, but there is one out in the AGP camp.
In the first ever incident of its kind in the annals of the political history of Asom, a disgruntled AGP ticket-aspirant went to the extreme when he stole the ''ticket'' and filed the nomination papers.
The man in the eye of storm is Nazrul Islam Chouhdury from North Karimganj, who unable to ensure the party ticket, stole the ''A&B'' form signed by party president Brindabon Goswami and filed the nomination papers.
The party source, confirming the incident, said that he was caught on the wrong foot when he filed his nomination producing 'pilfered' party forms which authorizes him as a nominee of the party.
Following an understanding, the AGP had set aside the seat for the CPI. But angry on the development, Choudhury managed to procure form A and B, bearing nine signatures of the party president, from the party office which he submitted along with his nomination. The forms purportedly authorizes the applicant as an official candidate of the party.
Taking cognizance of the matter, president Brindabon Goswami yesterday petitioned the Returning Officer of Karimganj as well as the Chief Election Officer (CEO) to cancel the elephant symbol from Choudhury's nomination.
It is not yet clear what step the CEO would take in this regard.
